Roma Reconsidering Going After Chiesa, Barça Linked Too

Roma are seeking a left winger and are back in the running for Federico Chiesa, who’s been shown the door by Juventus. The Giallorossi targeted him early on but opted to sign Matias Soulé instead since he was more enthusiastic about the destination, Tuttomercatoweb informs.

The capital club has to decide whether to concretely rekindle the interest in the Bianconeri outcast or go for a youngster instead. Matias Fernandez-Pardo would be at the top of the list if they took the second route.

Roma would have to spend a similar sum to sign either Chiesa or the Gent talent, but the two have very different wages. That’s largely what has been holing up the former’s departure besides his indecisiveness. He makes €5M and would like a raise, or at least stay at the same level, while Juventus proposed a pay cut.

According to Sport (via Fantacalcio), he’s been offered to Barcelona, but they are focusing on Nico Williams for now. Per Il Messaggero, Lazio have thought about chasing after him, but his salary is a big obstacle. He’d have to dilute them in a long-term contract.

Our Take on Roma and Chiesa

He must have been promised something good by his agent if he’s still unsure about leaving in the first place. The chances of a reconciliation with the Old Lady appear null. It shouldn’t be forgotten that his move to Turin was finalized on deadline day after weeks of rumors. Signing him would be a detour from the strategy for the Giallorossi as, while they have invested lavishly in fees, their newcomers have modest wages relatively speaking.
