Roma Reignite Interest in Monchengladbach Midfielder

Jose Mourinho and his troops still seem to be settling in under new management at the Stadio Olimpico and the upcoming transfer window opens up opportunities to bolster the squad.

Apart from working on the contract renewals of Gianluca Mancini, Nicolo Zaniolo and Jordan Veretout, sporting director Tiago Pinto and coach Mourinho are keen on reinforcing their midfield options.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria, who recently turned down a renewal offer in Germany, is still on the top of the wishlist.

The Swiss international was linked throughout the recently concluded summer transfer window with the Giallorossi, only for the Romans to see themselves fail to capture another Swiss man in Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka.

However, interest from Italy seems to have been reignited for the Gladbach midfielder, whose contract expires in June 2022. Tiago Pinto is keen on luring him either in January or at the end of the season in May/June 2022 on a free transfer.

With the departure of Steven Nzonzi, a new space has opened up for a reinforcement in central midfield and Zakaria is the most likely option.
