Roma Reignite Interest in Renato Sanches

Houssem Aouar’s arrival from Lyon on a free transfer hasn’t been enough to deter Roma from scouring the market for additional midfield reinforcements. Per Gianluca Di Marzio, Paris Saint-Germain outcast Renato Sanches could follow the same path and swap Ligue 1 for Serie A this summer.

In-demand Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi remains a top target for Roma boss Jose Mourinho. However, the Giallorossi would have to beat stiff competition from Milan and Inter to secure the Italian’s signature. That’s not to mention the cost of the operation could take a massive toll on the club’s finances.

With Roma operating on a tight budget, cost-effective signings remain a priority. One such deal could bring Sanches to the Stadio Olimpico. It could be one-and-done for the ex-Lille man. The 25-year-old had a tough maiden season at the Parc des Princes. And Les Parisiens are open to offloading their fringe star.

Mourinho sounded out a move for Sanches last summer. However, a transfer fell through as the Portuguese ace chose Paris over Roma. Since that hasn’t worked out, he could reconsider his options in the coming weeks. The only uncertainty is over PSG’s potential asking price.

The record-time French champions paid Lille around €10 million to acquire Sanches’ services. Therefore, they’ll likely be looking to recoup their investment. Given the player’s quality and experience, it could be a bargain deal for Roma.

But the Italians may have to wait a while longer to understand the feasibility of a deal. It will be up to soon-to-be PSG manager Luis Enrique to deliver his verdict on Sanches’ first-team prospects in Paris.
