Roma Set Sights on Barcelona Product to Fix Right Flank

Roma made some moves on the wings in the summer, but they haven’t panned out yet, and they have shortlisted Oscar Mingueza to shore up the right one in January. He has a €20M release club, but his contract only lasts until 2026, Mundo Deportivo informs.

The Giallorossi like the player and might eventually open talks to sign him for less than that figure. Celta Vigo aim to keep him and extend his deal. Barcelona are owed 50 percent of the fee on his next transfer.

Roma could bring in Mingueza to compete with Zeki Celik, but the potential newcomer can play in several other roles. The Turk has been the clear starter at the position since Saud Abdulhamid hasn’t won over their two coaches so far. He has been lackluster in his few short appearances.

The 25-year-old moved from Barcelona to Celta Vigo on a free move back in 2022. He’s been a regular since joining, racking up 72 appearances, 4 goals, and 7 assists. He had starred 66 times with the Blaugrana beforehand and made his lone appearance with Spain in June 2021.

If they continue with Ivan Juric or 3-4-2-1 in general, they’ll need a more productive wingback to make the scheme work well. They probably thought Abdulhamid could be that, but he has struggled to adapt to European football. An addition might hinge on the future of Nicola Zalewski. They also have the option of adapting either him or Stephan El Shaarawy to the right flank, as Angelino is good enough to handle the left one consistently, and they can lean on their new veterans in the back.
