Roma are enjoying a decent start to the current campaign, as the Capital club currently sits third in the Serie A standings, only behind the two Milan giants, and one point above Juventus. Nonetheless, the Giallorossi are rightfully looking for market opportunities to enhance their squad. According to Calciomercato, Roma have earmarked Everton’s Bernard as the man to upgrade their attacking department.
The Brazilian international has been plying his trade in the Premier League since 2019, when he left Shakhtar Donetsk after five seasons in Ukraine.
Unfortunately for the 28-year-old, his English adventure isn’t working out as initially expected, as the player only featured in six EPL matches during the current season – only twice as a starter – scoring a single goal in the process.
Since the Toffees manager Carlo Ancelotti clearly favors other players – James Rodriguez chief among them – Bernard could be looking for a home elsewhere, and a reunion with Roma coach Paulo Fonseca could be just what he needs at the moment, as the report suggests that the Portuguese tactician has specifically requested the signing of his former pupil.
The source adds that Everton have already put the left winger on the transfer market, and the Italian club has made the first contact with the English side.

Although this proposed transfer seems to be in it’s early stages, but overall it makes perfect sense for all parties involved .
Bernard was once upon a time considered as one the brightest rising stars in the sports, but the Brazilian was never able to truly fulfill his initial promise. However, the winger is by no means a bad player, and if Ancelotti doesn’t see him fitting for his team, then he deserves the chance to make a statement elsewhere.
After the departures of Justin Kluivert, Cengiz Under and Diego Perotti, Roma would do well to add another winger to the squad, and the presence of Fonseca at the helm could help in revitalizing the career of the former Shakhtar player.
