Roma Set to Complete First Signing Under De Rossi

RB Leipzig wing-back Angelino is reportedly on the verge of joining struggling Serie A giants Roma on a six-month loan. Per Gianluca Di Marzio, the 27-year-old will touch down in Italy early next week for medicals before signing a short-term deal at the Stadio Olimpico.

Angelino’s impending arrival comes somewhat abruptly. Roma have been in the market for a new left-back amidst Leonardo Spinazzola’s downturn in form. However, the Spaniard has recently landed on their radar, albeit as a mere hypothesis.

Deemed surplus to requirements by Leipzig boss Marco Rose, Angelino left the Bundesliga outfit to secure regular first-team football at Galatasaray in the summer. But only half a season into his Istanbul adventure, the ex-Manchester City ace is ready to move on.

His idea of reigniting a faltering career in the Turkish Super Lig has fallen apart. After only making eight appearances for Galatasaray, Angelino has requested a transfer. With the Turks unwilling to stand in his way and Leipzig reluctant to take him back, Roma have emerged as a safe haven.

New Roma manager Daniele De Rossi wants to add depth to the left-hand side. Stephan El Shaarawy often played as a makeshift wing-back during Jose Mourinho’s tenure. But he’s not a natural full-back. That’s why the Giallorossi icon is keen to onboard Angelino.

Roma and Leipzig are ironing out the final details, with the Italians expected to include a buyout clause in this loan agreement. The figure should not exceed €6 million.
