Roma Set to Complete Major Midfield Signing

Persuaded by Jose Mourinho, wantaway Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Renato Sanches is on the cusp of completing his move to Roma. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, it’s only a matter of time before the sporadic Portugal international joins Mourinho’s fleet.

Sanches made a poor choice last summer. After a brilliant stint at Lille, he could’ve linked up with Milan. Instead, the 25-year-old picked the Parc des Princes to reunite with former manager Christophe Galtier. After being handed only 905 minutes of action last season, he’s ready to move on.

Roma will offer him a fresh start. Mourinho has intervened in person to convince Sanches that moving to Serie A would be in his best interest. The Italians were inches away from finding the breakthrough in ongoing talks with PSG earlier this week

At long last, they’ve found common ground with Les Parisiens. Roma will sign the ex-Bayern Munich star on a season-long loan with an option to buy. PSG paid Lille €15 million last summer, and they’ll use that figure as a benchmark to determine the buyout amount.

What’s more important for Roma is that the Ligue 1 champions will contribute to paying Sanches’ hefty €6m-a-year wages. Hopefully, he’ll have more luck at the Stadio Olimpico than Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutchman swapped PSG for the Giallorossi last summer.

However, his loan spell was doomed from the start, as he broke his leg before the season commenced. Roma refused to take up the buyout option at the end of last term.
