Roma Shortlist Iranian Marksman for Free Transfer

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Roma’s next transfer target in 2022 has already been identified. Zenit St. Petersburg’s 26-year-old striker Sardar Azmoun is the player in contention.

The Iranian international was most recently the subject of a bid from Tottenham but didn’t move, in order to see out his contract in St.Petersburg which expires in June 2022. The Russian club were keen to hold on to him given his fantastic form – on both the club and national level.

Roma are reportedly the frontrunners for his signature at the end of the current season and sporting director Tiago Pinto is said to be an admirer of his playing style, which might help Jose Mourinho put up a 4-3-3 line up – with Tammy Abraham, Eldor Shomurodov and Sardar Azmoun upfront.

Real Madrid product Borja Mayoral’s two-year Giallorossi loan deal comes to an end and he is expected to move back to Spain, opening up the slot for Azmoun.

This is not the first time Azmoun has been linked to Roma, with the club keeping close tabs on him during the previous transfer window.
