Roma Shortlist More Options to Address Their Left Flank

With Leonardo Spinazzola on an expiring contract and unlikely to stay, Roma have begun earmarking left-backs for January and next June and, on top of Mitchel Bakker, they have taken an interest in Vasco Da Gama’s Lucas Piton and Rangers’ Borna Barisic, Calciomercato informs.

The former is talented but would be a gamble since it’d be his first spell in Europe. CEO Tiago Pinto might not follow suit on his pursuit of Marcos Leonardo to keep an extra-EU spot open. His arrival would be possible only if the Italian veteran stayed put in the next window.

While Piton could be a winter option for Roma, Barisic is more of a target for next summer, when his contract will run out. The 31-year-old has been in Scotland since 2018 after playing for several teams in Croatia. He has notched 9 goals and 52 assists in 217 appearances.

According to Team Talk, Rangers haven’t abandoned hopes of retaining him. He’s being eyed by a few sides, especially Nottingham Forest. They are helmed by director Ross Wilson, who brought him to the United Kingdom in the first place.

Our Take on Roma, Piton, and Barisic

They wouldn’t be wrong to trust Nicola Zalewski a little more despite his defensive shortcomings. He’s also one of the few they could profit from, though. Going from one veteran to another, although less pricey, doesn’t make a ton of sense.
