Roma Sporting Director Pinto’s Piece of Mind on Transfer Business

Tiago Pinto gave his piece of mind regarding Roma’s current situation and the recently concluded transfer window – which without saying, did bring in a lot of surprises.

Roma have had to deal with financial difficulties but somehow managed to see off a decent transfer window.

The Portuguese sporting director was brought in along with his compatriot Jose Mourinho – with the duo starting off the Serie A season on a high note.

He held a press conference in Rome at the Trigoria sports complex.

Speaking to the press (via Romapress.net), when asked about Roma’s transfer window, the General Manager said: “I think we managed to make a good transfer market, I’m not here to say that I’m a great director but in this context we managed to bring the best coach in the world and we managed to improve the team, sure, you will talk about the things that failed but I’m sure of the excellent work done.”

Roma managed to bring in Tammy Abraham and Eldor Shumurodov, while they had to deal with the loss of Edin Dzeko to arch-rivals Inter.

However, they could not manage to offload Steven Nzonzi, Davide Santon and Federico Fazio – all of who are out of Mourinho’s plan for the season. Javier Pastore has been the only one to have his contract terminated based on mutual agreement.

There are 3-4 market windows open, I think solutions can be found for the remaining players excluded from the team. We worked a lot and brought them good offers where no player would have lost any money, but all offers were rejected,” he said.

The Giallorossi lost three players – Alessandro Florenzi, Pedro and Dzeko to players to rival Italian giants in Milan, Lazio and Inter, respectively.

When asked if sending Roma players to direct rivals is a risk, Pinto said: “In this life any decision in a risk, let’s think of Messi. These players had 3 different situations but when a player does not want to play for Roma and wants to leave is what counts. We want to build a project where the star players of the team are willing to die for Roma.”

Roma resume their season against Sassuolo on September 13.
