Despite emerging as the top candidate to complete the new-look Milan attack, Tammy Abraham doesn’t think about leaving Roma. The English striker addressed his immediate future in the mixed zone after Daniele De Rossi’s side held Everton to a 1-1 friendly draw on Saturday.
“The rumors about Milan are there and they are also nice because it means that I’m doing things well. But this is my first preparation after the injury, I’m focused on Roma and what I want to do here,” Abraham said, as reported by Gianluca Di Marzio.
After signing Alvaro Morata, Milan have identified Abraham as the missing component to complete Paulo Fonseca’s attacking jigsaw. It was supposed to be a routine deal with Roma as De Rossi deemed the ex-Chelsea center-forward surplus to requirements.
Artem Dovbyk’s arrival has been a massive blow to Abraham’s hopes of re-establishing himself as a first-team regular at Roma. However, he sees the Ukrainian as a potential partner in the front third and looks forward to their collaboration at the Stadio Olimpico.
“Since I was a child I have been used to competition to fighting for the place. He is a great striker, but I want to do my best. And maybe one day De Rossi could even give us the chance to play together,” Abraham stated.
Milan cannot be happy about Abraham’s statement as they’re running out of time to deliver Fonseca a competitive roster. But it’s potentially good news for Roma. It couldn’t hurt to have two high-profile center-forward options.
