Roma Start Convoluted Talks to Onboard Empoli Starlet

Roma have laid eyes on Tommaso Baldanzi amid their search for new attackers. They haven’t reached out to Empoli directly but have signaled their intentions to his entourage and had positive contacts with them. They have to offload some players before going after him seriously, Gianluca Di Marzio informs.

Empoli don’t want a simple loan, as Juventus did in Dean Huijsen’s case. The talent has spent a lot of time on the shelf this season and has scored once in 13 Serie A appearances, adding a goal with Italy U-21.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Roma and the Azzurri would need to find the right formula for the Baldanzi deal. The Giallorossi can’t sign him permanently right away. An obligation to buy could be enough to entice the Tuscan outfit.

The 20-year-old has a €15/18M valuation. Empoli could be open to getting a youngster in return. The counterparty has a few interesting ones.

Our Take on Roma and Baldanzi

It’s the right time to go after him since his season hasn’t gone as expected after a very promising one last year. Moreover, he doesn’t have a clear tactical collocation in Davide Nicola’s scheme, nor is he a great fit for his gritty style.

The Azzurri has gotten used to playing without him. Despite their previous stance, they might elect to cash in rather than risking to see his value decrease should they get relegated. He’d be a great candidate to serve as Paulo Dybala’s deputy even though there are some injury concerns.
