Roma Take an Interest in Chelsea Fringe Midfielder

Roma are monitoring a few targets to bolster the midfield in case they offloaded one of their contributors in the role. Ruben Loftus-Cheek has entered their shortlist alongside other foreign options, Calciomercato.com informs.

The Giallorossi discussed him during the recent talks with the Blues centered around Tammy Abraham. The 25-year-old made his debut in the pros while José Mourinho was at the helm. He is coming off a loan spell at Fulham. He needed consistent playing time to recover fully from an Achilles tendon tear. If Chelsea signed another top-notch midfielder, as they are trying to, he would likely struggle to see regular minutes.

Loftus-Cheek would fit the profile of the players Roma are looking for. The Pensioners could let him go on another temporary stint with a €16M option to buy at the end of it. Loftus-Cheek has logged 12 goals and 11 assists in 82 matches with Chelsea. He has ten caps with the Three Lions. CEO Tiago Pinto will take his name into serious consideration if they sold Gonzalo Villar or, preferably, Amadou Diawara. Napoli opened talks for the Spanish midfielder earlier today, the specialized site adds.

Rather than making new additions, Roma are now focusing on trimming the roster. The next players in line to leave are Robin Olsen, Federico Fazio, Davide Santon, Steven Nzonzi and Javier Pastore. Their significant salaries are slowing down the process as most asked for severance packages to depart. The center-back is on Genoa’s radar, but they are closer to signing Nikola Maksimovic.
