Roma Take Interest in Leicester City Demoted Defender

Roma have been seeking a new center-back for about a year now, and the latest name to pop up on their radar is Caglar Soyuncu. He’s been at Leicester City since 2018, but he has progressively fallen out of favor because he doesn’t want to prolong his contract, which runs out at the end of the season, Calciomercato reports.

The Turk makes less than €2M per year, which wouldn’t be a problem for the Giallorossi. They can’t spend much since they will have to turn in a profit in the next two windows because of Financial Fair Play’s restrictions.

Roma will inquire with the Foxes for January, but Soyuncu is more likely to be a Bosman target. The same goes for Evan Ndicka, who is in a similar situation and has been in their crosshairs for a while. Eintracht Frankfurt demand €10M to let him go in January, and the capital side is unwilling to match the request.

CEO Tiago Pinto will verify whether it’s possible to lower the fee for the winter; otherwise, they’ll join the host of teams eyeing him for the summer. The Giallorossi would also like to bring in a midfielder. Sassuolo aren’t inclined to sell Davide Frattesi in the next window. RB Salzburg’s Maurits Kjaergaard is a possible fallback plan, but he’s not much cheaper, Sportitalia informs. Daichi Kamada is also a possible objective, and he’s tied to Eintracht Frankfurt only until June, FootballNews24 relays.

Our Take on Roma and Soyuncu

He’d be a pretty good addition for a low sum or even better for nothing, but his fit in a three-man line is a little questionable. He might be able to play only in Chris Smalling’s role.
