Roma to Add Juventus Misfit After Danso Deal Collapses

Roma are no longer signing Kevin Danso as he didn’t pass his medicals and will onboard Tiago Djaló from Juventus instead, who was very available, provided there are no hiccups from the medical standpoint. The Giallorossi would have paid around €25M for the Austrian defender.

Instead, the Portuguese center-back is coming in on loan with a €9M option to buy and €1M add-ons, Sky relays. He reportedly asked out as the Bianconeri were chasing Pierre Kalulu. The capital club tracked him in recent weeks but had picked the Lens man over him. They have also reignited their interest in Mats Hummels, who’s a free agent and could also sign later on. They touched base for Milan Skrinier, but such a chase is complicated by his wages.

Djaló will complete his Roma transfer on Friday afternoon, while the Ligue 1 team reacted harshly to the Danso U-turn.

“The result of the medicals caused the interruption of the transfer. We question the reason of the missed greenlight for a player who’s been attentively monitored and has strung together multiple seasons with more than 30 appearances in France and internationally. Lens maintain maximum trust in him and are delighted to welcome him back. He’ll undergo a series of tests before wearing our colors again.”

Our Take on Roma, Danso, and Djaló

It’s never pleasing when something happens with the physical tests. Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious, but clubs have the right to protect their investments. The Juventus outcast hasn’t been given a chance to prove his worth in Serie A. They sufficed a rotational piece to be whole in the role, provided everybody stays healthy. They’d be ready for a switch to a three-man line with another signing.
