Roma to Challenge Inter for Signature of Dortmund Ace

Roma are not yet done in the transfer market, with the backline needing an additional, and more importantly, an experienced defensive reinforcement. According to Corriere dello Sport, Borussia Dortmund ace Manuel Akanji is now in their crosshairs.

As the summer window reaches its climax on September 1st, the Giallorossi are understood to have accelerated their scouting process to onboard a defender. The Inter-linked center-back is understood to be one of the many contenders to arrive at the Stadio Olimpico by the end of the transfer window.

The other names being considered are Manchester United duo Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly, and free agent Dan-Axel Zagadou. While the aforementioned trio isn’t being as heavily pursued as Akanji, Roma will have to usurp Inter to capture Akanji. Having missed out to Juventus for Gleison Bremer, and quite possibly losing Milan Skriniar to Paris Saint-Germain, the Nerazzurri are also in the hunt for defensive bolstering.

The 27-year-old has a contract valid until the summer of 2023. Dortmund do not intend to lose their star defender on a free transfer. Having already proposed him to multiple teams, he has been excluded from the squad lists for Bundesliga matches.
