Roma will turn their attention to the flanks after completing the Artem Dovbyk deal. He flew to Italy on Thursday and is taking care of the final formal steps. He’s joining in a €30.5M move, plus €5.5M add-ons and ten percent of a future sale for a maximum total of €38.5M, Gianluca Di Marzio relays.
The Giallorossi have been looking for a right-back all summer but also aim to add a pacey attacker, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays. Considering the difficulties for Raoul Bellanova, Marc Pubill is currently top of the list. On the other hand, Almeria upped their demands and set a €18M price tag. It won’t be an easy negotiation. Other than Lorenz Assignon, Lille’s Tiago Santos and Manchester City’s Issa Kaboré are also on their radar as fallbacks.
As for the left flank, Roma eyed Jeremie Boga early in the summer, and their interest hasn’t waned. Director Florent Ghisolfi brought him to Nice last summer. He’s eyeing also Corinthians’ 19-year-old prodigy Wesley. He has recorded 7 goals and 6 assists in 80 matches already.
As they already did multiple times, the Giallorossi could swoop in and upset other sides’ apple carts. They might consider Porto’s Galeno and Gent’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo if they couldn’t land their top targets.
Our Take on the Roma Plans
A strong right-back is a must as the position has been a sore spot for years. A left winger, preferably a talent, would be the cherry on top. Stephan El Shaarawy is still going strong, and they’ll probably use Lorenzo Pellegrini there too to make the scheme work, but they are both aging.
