Roma will not make major investments in January, as admitted by José Mourinho in a recent presser. However, they will still try to strengthen the squad. They were able to take a close look at one of their targets yesterday. Like Inter, the Giallorossi are after Spezia’s Giulio Maggiore, Calciomercato.com reports.

The 23-year-old has been a steady performer in the past two seasons for the Aquilotti. He has racked up 49 appearances and notched 3 goals and 3 assists. He has shown the ability to play in any position in the midfield, which would come very in handy for Roma.

On the other hand, Spezia might resist selling anybody in the short term. They are currently prohibited from making signings for the next four windows due to a FIFA ban. Maggiore has an €8M price tag, the site adds. The Nerazzurri are eyeing him for next summer when they might overhaul their midfield.

CEO Tiago Pinto addressed their winter plans to Sky Sport yesterday but sidestepped the question about the Spezia captain: “I do not talk about players that belong to other teams. We know what we need. The strategy by Roma ownership will be different from the summer. But we are focusing on the upcoming matches first.”

The executive did not rule out Borja Mayoral staying put: “He has always been a great professional and fared well against CSKA Sofia. He will have more opportunities. Our doors are always open in both directions, but it is not the right time to discuss that yet.”
