Roma Utterly Confident About Purchasing Marcos Leonardo

Roma might face new competitors for Marcos Leonardo ahead of the January window, but they believe they already have an agreement with Santos in the bag. They came within a hair’s width from snapping up the talent in the summer. However, the deal collapsed over circumstances beyond their control, such as the Peixe firing director Falcao and their coach and selling Deivid Washington to Chelsea for €16M.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Giallorossi are in the driver’s seat to acquire the highly-rated talent. The six-month delay should lead to a small discount on his fee.

While they offered €18M including add-ons in July, Roma could buy Marcos Leonardo for €13M during the winter window.

If all goes to plan, they’ll then have to decide whether to keep him in the squad or loan him out to another Serie A team for six months so he can feature regularly. They did the same with Leandro Paredes and Amantino Mancini in the past. They had zeroed in on him before replenishing their strike force with Romelu Lukaku and Serdar Azmoun.

Our Take on Roma and Marcos Leonardo

The Giallorossi surely laid plenty of legwork to sign him. However, considering the seesawing nature of their summer talks and the many interests at stake, only completing the deal officially in the coming weeks would guarantee the result.
