Roma Will Have Trouble Retaining Lukaku from Chelsea

Chelsea are very much willing to sell Romelu Lukaku next summer and have reportedly already agreed to his valuation with his camp, around €40M; however, despite his early success, his future might not be with Roma, Tuttomercatoweb informs.

The fee is high for a team constantly navigating Financial Fair Play restrictions. They’d need to qualify for the Champions League to have a shot. They are currently tenth in Serie A with a three-point disadvantage relative to the top four.

Lukaku has been splendid in his early Roma days, bagging seven goals in eight appearances across all competitions. The Giallorossi paid a €5.8M fee and are contributing to his wages.

If the capital club doesn’t have the funds to retain him, the marksman could give another thought to moving to Saudi Arabia. He could have done it last summer but preferred staying in Europe. He relayed his appreciation for the offer and didn’t shut the door on transferring to Al-Hilal in the future in a recent interview.

Our Take on Roma and Lukaku

It’ll be a tough call if he keeps scoring at his current rate and stays healthy for the entire season. As was the case for Inter, which came up with some legitimate excuses, the reality is that spending big for a 30-year-old with a large salary isn’t the best business decision for teams that aren’t swimming in gold.
