Roma Wing-Back Reluctant to Depart Despite Rumors

Roma are in advanced talks to sign Rasmus Kristensen from Leeds United, but Rick Karsdorp has no intention of leaving and is blocking a new arrival in the same role. The fullback has struggled to find suitors also because he’s not in any rush to move, Corriere dello Sport informs.

The Dutchman, despite often being deemed expendable and suffering multiple big injuries, has been in the Italian capital since 2017. He had a regular role in the first season with José Mourinho at the helm. Instead, the two had a public falling out the following year, which saw him be frozen out and on the verge of transferring again. The duo eventually patched things up. The player was re-instated but then went down with another significant knee problem.

Despite his tipsy-turvy stay, José Mourinho wouldn’t mind keeping Karsdorp on the Roma squad for the upcoming season. The Special One still considers him a useful contributor.

It remains to be seen whether director Tiago Pinto will try to offload Zeki Celik to make room for Kristensen instead. The Giallorossi paid €7M to purchase him from Lille last summer. The Dane would join on a season-long loan from Leeds United as Diego Llorente did. Karsdorp has two more years on his contract with Roma.
