Roma Young Pair Make Serie A Debut Against Bologna

José Mourinho rested multiple starters and gave Mile Svilar and Filippo Missori their chance to debut in Serie A in Sunday’s match versus Bologna. The two held their own even though the Giallorossi stumbled to a draw.

The Special One motivated his choices to DAZN after the game.

“We fielded these youngsters but didn’t lose anything in our foundation and mentality. Kudos to them since it was their first nod domestically. Benjamin Tahirovic doesn’t have many tilts under his belt either. I’m proud of how the team played versus Bologna.”

Svilar had previously featured in Europa League in September, while Missori made his first-ever pro appearance. Mourinho expounded on the goalie.

“He needed work and principles to understand his potential. He practiced well, and he’s a serene guy. I think he did very well technically, plus he has big presence overall. It wasn’t a test for the wing-back but a step in his growth.”

The ex-Benfica shot-stopper commented.

“I wish to thank the manager and goalkeeper coach Nuno Santos for this opportunity. I feel comfortable in this group. I’ve improved mentally in the last ten months. The squad is solid and committed. We are focused on Thursday’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen. We have a one-goal lead, but it doesn’t mean much. We’ll do our best.”

Missori was over the moon after his first match (via Virgilio).

“As a Rome-born player that came up in the academy, it’s an emotion that can’t be described through words. I quickly comprehended the situation and stayed calm and lucid. Mourinho told me to play like I’m capable of, observe the game in the first few minutes, gain confidence, and then do what I’m used to in Primavera.”
