Ronaldo Backs Dybala to Shine Under Mourinho at Roma

Ex-Inter and Milan icon Ronaldo believes Roma manager Jose Mourinho is the perfect coach to take the Conference League winners to the next level, especially by strengthening new signing Paulo Dybala’s prowess in the final-third. The former Real Madrid striker thinks the Special One’s appeal is hard to turn down, as witnessed during the transfer saga for the Argentine playmaker.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport in an exclusive, he shed light on what to expect from the Giallorossi next season.

“I find it very funny how Mourinho’s appeal still works to this day. Whether it’s sporting directors or players, it’s very hard to say no to Mourinho. He makes you do what he wants, but he does so by convincing you that it’s your choice. He’s the right coach for Dybala, who in Rome can become an idol for all supporters.” (via Calciomercato)

He then revealed what might turn out to be Roma’s downfall.

“Ultimately I think the biggest danger for Roma next season is the way Roma tend to experience too much euphoria at times.”

Ronaldo believes returning to the biggest continental stage should be the Giallorossi’s first target in the new season, while teams will loathe playing at the Stadio Olimpico.

“Aiming at a return to the Champions League at this point is a duty, even if Mourinho is too smart to say it; to start talking about the Scudetto would be to burn down a long-term project. One fact is certain: playing at the Olimpico this year will be a living hell for everyone.”

Roma open their Serie A account against Salernitana on August 14.
