Ronaldo: “France Are Favorites But Watch Out for Argentina”

Brazil hero Ronaldo believes reigning World Cup champions France have a good chance of retaining the coveted title. If France do go on to win the golden trophy, they will become only the second team in history to win back-to-back World Cups, after Brazil’s successive triumphs in 1958 and 1962. However, Lionel Messi-led Argentina and Luka Modric-led Croatia pose as great threats, as do minnows Morocco.

Speaking at a press conference (via Tuttomercatoweb) from Doha, Ronaldo spoke of the World Cup in progress.

“My prediction, before the start of the World Cup, was a final between France and Brazil. Brazil is no more. But France confirm match after match to be the favourites, the big favourites. They have a very solid team, both in defense and in attack. In midfield they are also very strong, now with Tchouaméni scoring from outside the area.

Finer details have dictated the flow of the 2022 World Cup, and Ronaldo shares the same point of view.

“England have played very well against France, but the same thing happened to Brazil against Croatia. The match was decided by details. France are favourites, but watch out for Argentina, who also have chances, and Croatia, who were already in the final four years ago.”

Argentina face Croatia in the first semi-final tonight, before Morocco take on France on Wednesday. The respective winners will play the final on Sunday, 18 December.
