Ronaldo-Icardi and the Top 5 Potential Exchanges involving Juventus

In the last few years, the transfer market has reinvented himself with a new trend, with several top clubs conducting exchange deals that often tends to circulate around the financial regulations imposed by football’s governing bodies. For their part, Juventus have been true pioneers in this newly-established system, trading Joao Cancelo for Danilo two years ago, before pulling off another exchange deal, sending Miralem Pjanic to Barcelona with Arthur coming in the opposite direction.

Despite the departure of former sporting director, Fabio Paratici, the Old Lady is still heavily linked with all sort of swap deals. Even though the vast majority of them are unlikely to happen, but here are the Top 5 potential exchanges involving Bianconeri players this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Mauro Icardi (Paris Saint Germain)

In the previous months, we heard several reports linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a glamorous exchange that would send him back to Manchester United, with Paul Pogba making his return to Juventus.

Nonetheless, the Red Devils eventually opted to sign the much younger Jadon Sancho, closing the door on the Portuguese’s return to Old Trafford.

However, CR7 and Pogba could coincidentally end up playing side-by-side next season, with both of them being linked to PSG.

Whilst most observers are now expecting Ronaldo to remain in Turin for his final contractual season, the French club could be his last remaining escape route if he hopes to leave the Allianz Stadium, and the Bianconeri would be be happy to pull off a deal that would land them their longtime target, Mauro Icardi.

Nevertheless, the 36-year-old’s astronomical wages could prove to be the biggest obstacle.

Merih Demiral – Robin Gosens (Atalanta)

This one was mentioned earlier in the summer but it seems to have ran out of steam lately. Merih Demiral is hoping to leave the club this summer after spending the last campaign as a mere backup defender.

On the other hand, Robin Gosens has been a revelation in the last few seasons at Atalanta, and was also one the few bright spots for Germany in their disappointing Euro 2020 run.

Both men have a valuation of around 40 million euros, and Gianluca Frabotta’s impending transfer to Bergamo could be taken as a signal that the club are ready to part ways with the German.

However, Manchester City seem to a more likely destination of the impressive wingback.

Aaron Ramsey – Miralem Pjanic (Barcelona)

In an unperceived twist of fate, less than a year after conducting an exchange that saw him join Barcelona, Juventus are trying to bring back Pjanic… proposing yet another swap!

The Blaugrana are currently desperate to offload some of their high earners in order to renew Leo Messi’s contract, and with the Bosnian being out of favor with coach Ronald Koeman, paying him 8.5 million euros to sit on the bench is just unaffordable.

Nonetheless, Aaron Ramsey is hardly considered to be an enticing prospect for the Catalans, and thus, Federico Cherubini and company must find another formula to sign their ex-midfielder.

Adrien Rabiot – Donny van de Beek (Manchester United)

After completing a move from Ajax to Manchester United last summer, Donny van de Beek simply failed to make an impact in the Premier League.

Whilst the Dutchman is undoubtedly a decent player, Adrien Rabiot has been a work in progress at Juventus in the last two seasons, and is expected to further develop under the tutelage of the returning Max Allegri.

This one wouldn’t make too much sense for the Old Lady.

Paulo Dybala – Antoine Griezmann (Barcelona)

Juventus fans found about this reportedly proposed exchange deal on Tuesday. As we mentioned above, Barcelona are facing a race against time to offload their unwanted high earners, and Antoine Griezmann is on the top of the list.

Whilst the Frenchman could lend a hand for the Bianconeri in attack, sacrificing Paulo Dybala in the process is simply unwise. The Italians better let this opportunity pass them by.
