Round 10 Openers: Spezia vs Genoa 1-1 and Venezia vs Salernitana 1-2

The Round 10 of Serie A began Tuesday afternoon with two key clashes in the relegation struggle. Both delivered from the intensity standpoint and featured late-game drama. Spezia left something on the table against Genoa. Instead, Salernitana ultimately exploited Venezia’s troubles to earn a previous win. The Granata leapfrogged Cagliari, at least for the moment. The four sides are within one point of each other from the 17th to the 19th position.

Spezia-Genoa opened up in the second half after a proper rock fight in the first 45 minutes. The Aquilotti started pushing and, after Emmanuel Gyasi missed two sitters, they broke the deadlock at the 66th minute. Ebrima Colley rifled it from the edge of the box, and the ball ricocheted off the post and on Salvatore Sirigu’s back over the line.

However, the Bianconeri kept the Grifone in the game by squandering two major opportunities with M’Bala Nzola and again Colley, with the veteran goalkeeper superbly answering the bell. The Rossoblù managed to tie with five minutes to on a penalty kick for a foul by Ivan Provedel on Felipe Caicedo. Domenico Criscito converted from the spot.

Venezia grabbed an early lead in the other game, with Mattia Aramu smashing it home on a feed by Cristian Molinaro and a dummy by David Okereke. The Lagunari’s best man subbed off at half-time, and Salernitana pounced. Federico Bonazzoli leveled by five-holing a defender and wrong-footing Sergio Romero from inside the box.

Then it started to pour on the Arancioneroverdi, as Ethan Ampadu got sent off for denying a clear-cut chance in the referee’s opinion. The guests created a lot and eventually broke through at the buzzer. Romero whiffed on a cross, Simy set the table with a sneaky flick-on, and Andrea Schiavone hit the net.
