Sacchi Excludes Inter and Juventus from Title Race

Legendary coach Arrigo Sacchi believes Inter and Juventus are already out of the running for the Scudetto following their slow starts. The veteran gaffer shared his thoughts with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Unless they change very quickly, I would say that they are not in the race. It’s utopian to think that, those two teams could be contenders in their current shape. Simone Inzaghi has grown a lot over the years, but, in the end, he remains a tactician at heart. His main principle is still the same, which is not conceding, and then see what happens. The Nerazzurri use basically a 5-3-2 scheme with a lot of players in the back. Strikers and midfielders are always outnumbers by the opponents. The solution for them would be to re-discover quickly the determination and spirit of sacrifice they had under Antonio Conte.”

After assessing Inter, Sacchi threw shade on Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri.

“He’s a great gaffer that won a lot thanks to his schemes. The fans, that used to praise him, are calling for his head now. He’s not having as much success as in the past, but the Bianconeri have struggled for a few years. His style is based on world-class players that must make up for the lack of collective play. He likes to be very defensive, but I keep thinking that dominating is necessary to increase the self-esteem of the team.”

“He doesn’t care about emotions or beauty, but he denies merit and spectacle thinking that way. You either win or your you cry. They have invested a lot, like Inter, and they are in the red and stumbling in Serie A and Champions League now.”
