Salernitana and Spezia Considering Coaching Changes

Salernitana and Spezia are mulling to axe their current gaffers amid their skids. It would be the second firing in the span of a month for Davide Nicola, who had been dismissed but then recalled after losing 2-8 to Atalanta.

Per Gianluca Di Marzio, both sides will decide in short order and are eyeing similar options. The Granata are keen on Vincenzo Montella, Francesco Farioli, and Andrea Pirlo. However, they’re all under contract with Turkish clubs and might not get released quickly. Giuseppe Iachini and Eusebio Di Francesco also made their shortlist. The former has strong steam. Instead, Gennaro Gattuso, who has been recently fired by Valencia, turned down the destination.

Leonardo Semplici is drawing interest from both Salernitana and Spezia. The latter are contemplating Roberto D’Aversa and Pirlo too. Leading assistant Fabrizio Lorieri will likely lead the team in Sunday’s clash with Juventus if Gotti is ousted. The club might take his time before appointing somebody else, Ansa relays.

The two teams have been dragged back into the relegation struggle due to their recent poor results and because Hellas Verona have started collecting points with consistency. The Campanian club has won once in ten rounds, collecting five total points. Instead, the Bianconeri have registered three losses and one tie in the past four rounds.

Our Take on Salernitana and Spezia

The spark provided by the previous dismissal of Nicola was short-lived. They had a couple of okay performances, but they aren’t playing with the same fire as last season. A change makes sense, but only if it’s not a lateral move to appoint somebody similar. Instead, the Aquilotti are paying the price for too many key absences, and their manager deserves a little more time.
