The second adventure of Stefano Colantuono as the boss of Salernitana finished yesterday as the Granata officially confirmed to have fired the coach through an official statement on their website.
The official press release read:
“U.S. Salernitana announces to have released Mr. Stefano Colantuono from his place as the coach of the First Team together with second coach Gianfranco Cinello and match analyst Sandro Antonini. Thanking them for their commitment, we wish them the best for their professional future.”
Today, Davide Nicola was announced as Colantuono’s replacement on Salernitana’s bench.
A change of scene was already in the air as Salernitana only won one out of their lasts 13 games. Despite their hectic market in the January window and with two games within reach against Spezia and Genoa, the Granata still could not manage a victory. The last 1-1 draw with Genoa was crucial for the change on the bench.
Before opting for Davide Nicola, Salernitana had contacts with Fabio Liverani and Andrea Pirlo. In the end, they chose Nicola due to his past experiences with saving teams from relegation, notably Genoa, Torino and, moreover, Crotone – which he led to safety in an unforgettable fashion in 2017.
