Salzburg Standout on Roma Radar as They Seek New Right-Back

Roma are searching for a new right-back to pair up with Rick Karsdorp. Bryan Reynolds has not won over José Mourinho. The youngster is currently partaking in a USMNT training camp, and the management is trying to find a new home for him on loan, perhaps in the MLS.

Roma have been linked to a few options for the role. The latest one is RB Salzburg’s Rasmus Kristensen, who has a €10M release clause in his contract, Il Tempo reports. The 24-year-old has scored 6 times and provided 4 assists in 17 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga this season. He has set up one teammate in six Champions League matches.

The Giallorossi are mulling over making an investment. The counterpart is unlikely to accept a loan with option to buy, which would be their preferred formula. Kristensen joined Salzburg from Ajax for €5M in 2019. He has been highly productive offensively in recent seasons and can also feature in different roles.

Roma are casting a wide net to find a new right-back. Their primary target was Diogo Dalot, but he might stay put now that Ralf Rangnick took over. Moreover, Manchester United never lowered his price tag even when he was not getting minutes.

The Giallorossi are reportedly keeping tabs on Norwich’s Max Aarons and Barcelona’s Sergino Dest, but they might be too pricey as well. Sampdoria’s Bartosz Bereszysnki and Jens Stryger Larsen could be their fallback plans if they could not find more enticing options. The latter has been frozen out by Udinese.
