Sampdoria Appoint Pirlo Ahead of Crucial Serie B Season

Its official, Italy legend Andrea Pirlo will lead the Sampdoria dugout in Serie B in 2023/24. Backed by the new management, the former Juventus coach has been trusted by Andrea Radrizzani to secure an immediate return to Serie A following a tumultuous season for the club under ex-patron Massimo Ferrero.

The arrival of Pirlo as the head coach was announced by the Blucerchiati in an official press release. He will sign a two-year contract in Liguria, tying himself with the club until June 2025.

Sampdoria will undergo a full technical overhaul with the arrival of Pirlo, with Nicola Legrottagie assigned the head of performance and Lorenzo Giani leading the scouting department as its chief.

Pirlo arrives in Genoa following a one-season stint at Turkish club Fatih Karagümrük. The 2006 World Cup winner spent just one campaign coaching in Italy, where he won the Coppa Italia in 2020/21 with the Bianconeri.

Sampdoria will look to bounce back to the top-flight under Pirlo after an extremely poor season where they finished last, having won just three matches under Dejan Stankovic all campaign.
