Sampdoria President Offers Mikkel Damsgaard to Roma in Odd Move

Sampdoria owner Massimo Ferrero wants Roma to sign Mikkel Damsgaard. He is a fan of the Giallorossi and invited them to open talks for the Danish attacker. He believes the starlet would be able to plug a hole in José Mourinho’s scheme.

Ferrero spoke to Corriere dello Sport: “Damsgaard is the midfielder they need. He would be a great purchase, and I want him to go to Roma. If they called me, we would easily be able to reach an agreement. He is better than Granit Xhaka. He has a lot of quality, and he can play in that position. We just need to have a sit-down, and we would come to terms right away. The Arsenal player will not join them; they need to find somebody else.”

In reality, Damsgaard has played only as winger or no.10 in his lone Serie A season. He has drawn interest from a plethora of teams, especially foreign ones. Roma were not among them and recently acquired Eldor Shomurodov, who has similar characteristics. Despite the chairman’s plea, Sampdoria does not intend to lower their demands and ask for €25M, the publication adds.

Roma are in the hunt for a new midfielder as their top target Xhaka is leaning towards signing a new contract with Arsenal. Mourinho wants a pure playmaker and is not particularly high on Gonzalo Villar, Amadou Diawara, and Ebrima Darboe. AZ’s Teun Koopmeiners and Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria are now the top options for the role. However, they have considerable price tags, Il Messaggero reports.
