Sampdoria Right-Back Confirms Talks with Roma in January

Bartosz Bereszynski corroborated the buzz that Roma pursued him in January as they were looking for a new right-back. They ultimately brought in Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan from Arsenal. They were not necessarily looking to make a big investment in the role.

The Sampdoria veteran told Corriere dello Sport: “I was among the two or three players the Giallorossi were eyeing at the time, and we had some talks. However, the only way I could leave was through a permanent move.” The Blucerchiati signed Andrea Conti in the same role in January, maybe anticipating the departure of their staple.

Roma are not happy with the performances of the newcomer and will seek a new right-back in the summer. It is unlikely that Bereszynski will resurface as an option. They seem keener on younger alternatives. In particular, they are chasing after Diogo Dalot and Sergino Dest.

According to the publication, both would welcome a transfer to Italy to be coached by José Mourinho. However, the negotiations with Manchester United and Barcelona will be challenging. The Giallorossi tried at length to get the Portuguese international last summer, but they failed to reach an agreement.

While they scan the market for a right-back, Roma have found a goalkeeper for the future. Mile Svilar will take the medicals within the next ten days and join in a Bosman move, Sky informs. They staved off a late attempt by Real Sociedad, which would have given him more playing time right away. He will initially back up Rui Patricio.
