Lazio returned to winning ways against Sassuolo Sunday, getting closer to the top four positions in the standings. Coach Maurizio Sarri and director Igli Tare diverge on whether they can really compete for a Champions League berth.
The boss had deemed it a “miraculous” objective in the pre-game presser, and the official retorted (via La Repubblica).
“It’s a goal for us. It won’t be easy, but we have the qualities to do it.”
Sarri quickly replied to Tare after securing the victory.
“He has his beliefs, but I think autonomously and voice mine. We might have different opinions, but Claudio Lotito settles things once and for all in the end. I came off experiences where I won and didn’t have fun, while I’m enjoying myself more now. At my age, I consider it more important that adding trophies to my cabinet. On paper, other teams are more equipped than ours. The press expected us to finish sixth or seventh before the season. However, if the players always perform like this, we can outperform that. Everything is possible, and we’ll try until the end.”
On top of responding to Sarri, Tare dished Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who has been freshly rumored to depart.
“He’s the best midfielder in Serie A, and questioning his skills is utopic. His love for this club and our bond go beyond the whispers on his future. The president and I talked with his agents in the past, and we are very serene because our relationship is excellent. There’s no problem. Luis Alberto was buzzed about last week, now it’s his turn. These cases don’t exist for us, because we clarify things very well.”
