Sarri Approval Lacking as Lazio Probe Greenwood Transfer

Manchester United academy graduate Mason Greenwood has undergone a tumultuous couple of years on accusations of domestic abuse. However, having announced that the 21-year-old will leave the club despite the dropped charges, Greenwood could find a new lease of life in the Italian capital, as contact with Lazio have been established.

Latest reports from Gianluca Di Marzio indicate that the Biancocelesti are making efforts to sign Greenwood on a permanent transfer. Manchester United’s decision to give up on their youth prodigy has opened up the avenue for Lazio, but much depends on Maurizio Sarri.

The ex-Chelsea and Napoli tactician is yet to give his approval for the operation to be deemed complete after the player was offered to the Lazio by the Red Devils. While a decision is yet to come to fruition, Sarri remains a key part of Lazio’s decision-making team.

Lazio will however need to speed up their efforts, as two Turkish outfits, including Besiktas, have also expressed interest in Greenwood. In contrast to the Italian transfer market, the Turkish window is open until September 15. Roma and Atalanta have also been linked to signing the youngster.

Greenwood was informed earlier last month that he would bear no part in Erik Ten Hag’s plans for the season. He last made a professional appearance in January 2022 before being arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and assault.
