Maurizio Sarri missed out on the recent coaching carousel but is ready to get back on the horse, as he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Unfortunately, even without football, I still smoke too much. The desire to return on the pitch has increased with the start of the season. I hope it’ll happen before January. It’ll depend on the situations, the offers, and motivations. I’ll take the call that conveys the most adrenaline. I don’t think it’ll be my last dance. It’s true that the trend is to hire young coaches, but some veterans won the recent cups, including the Euro. My final dream would be Boca Juniors: the games at the Bombonera would be a unique experience.”
Sarri is potentially a candidate for the Milan job.
“It would look bad to speak about it at this time. We need to be respectful. They can have a positive evolution since the squad is strong. Paulo Fonseca is a good coach and quality man. I met him in person: he has just started, and we should let him be. I don’t want to be involved in these matters.”
Sarri looked back at his time at Juventus.
“When I took over, there weren’t the premises for a cultural revolution. There might be now. It’s early, butyou can see that Thiago Motta is trying to do something different. Cristiano Rolando scored 37 goals with me, having his most prolific season in Serie A. It would have been ideal to have both him and Cristiano Giuntoli, as we did great things in our three years at Napoli. I think he’ll surely manage to win the Scudetto, but I don’t know how long it’ll take.”
