Sarri Eyes Two Inter Prodigies to Balance Acerbi Departure

With the departure of sporting director Igli Tare, Lazio are expected to undergo a summer overhaul. One player who has been the focus of talk is Francesco Acerbi, whose loan deal at Inter expires at the end of the month. The 35-year-old veteran is definitively not in the plans of Maurizio Sarri going ahead, making his Nerazzurri stay more probable.

As per La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato), Lazio could target either Mattia Zanotti or Giovanni Fabbian in the deal involving Acerbi. The two Inter youngsters have reportedly impressed Sarri, who seeks to revitalize his Champions League-bound squad.

Inter have the option to buy Acerbi for €4M as termed in the deal between the two sides a year ago, but it is understood that the Nerazzurri prefer paying lesser. The Biancocelesti, led by Sarri, will seek to take this opportunity to target either Fabbian or Zanotti as bargaining chips, with both impressing since being promoted to first team football.

Fabbian spent 2022/23 on loan in Serie B at Reggina – his first senior experience wherein he amassed 8 goals and 1 assist in 38 appearances. Meanwhile, Italy U20 right-back Zanotti, who joined the Inter youth system in 2017 from Brescia, has been impressing in the Nerazzurri Primavera side.

Sarri is on a mission alongside president Claudio Lotito to make the Biancocelesti squad more competitive ahead of a crucial 2023/24 season.
