Sarri Full of Praise for Vecino Following Europa League Victory

Lazio signed Matias Vecino during the summer transfer window and coach Maurizio Sarri is more than happy with having the 31-year-old Uruguayan playing in his ranks. Vecino found himself out of favor at Inter, restricted to just 23 appearances last season under Simone Inzaghi, as the player blamed the ex-Lazio coach for his exit from the Giuseppe Meazza in a recent interview.

Sarri, however, is content with the ex-Fiorentina central midfielder, calling him a ‘specialist’ in his position.

Speaking to Sky Sport (via FCInterNews) after his side’s 2-1 victory over FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League, the former Juventus and Napoli coach praised Vecino left and right.

“He is a total player. I like them, the specialists. He has aggression, intensity, dynamism, and quality. He makes insertions and if he has to suffer, he suffers. I am very happy, but I was already satisfied when there was the possibility of signing him.”

Vecino has played all but one match for the Biancocelesti since arriving in the summer. He has three goals and one assist in 15 appearances for Lazio, who have enjoyed a particularly strong start to the season – sitting third in the Serie A table.
