Sarri Responds to Mourinho Over Rest Days Before Derby

Maurizio Sarri didn’t miss the chance to answer to José Mourinho, who stated that Lazio had a scheduling advantage for the Derby since they competed in the European cups two days prior to Roma. The Biancocelesti boss disagreed with the notion after beating Feyenoord (via Corriere dello Sport).

“Roma can afford to play a friendly Thursday, while we went to war today. It’s a major difference. If you ask me whether it’s intelligent to place the Derby in the same week the two teams star in Europe, I’d say it’s not. It feels like people who are extraneous to football don’t realize what this match is. The Giallorossi can rest most of their starters against Slavia Prague thanks to their position in the standings.”

Sarri updated on Mattia Zaccagni and Luis Alberto’s fitness.

“We have no idea yet. I can’t be neither optimistic nor pessimistic. They have some ailments. Not even the doctor can say whether they are worrisome at this stage.”

Sarri complimented Ciro Immobile for scoring his 200th goal with Lazio.

“I’m happy about the result and that we’re playing in the most difficult competition. We picked up seven points in four games and will fight until the last game. He’s following a plan that envisaged a cameo in Bologna and a longer one in this game. I think he’s growing. He was fluid in his movements. I’m happy for this milestone, and I hope he’ll shoot for 300.”
