Sassuolo and Lazio Slated to Compete for Empoli Playmaker

Nedim Bajrami will be a hot commodity in the summer following a strong first season in Serie A, and Sassuolo and Lazio have shown the most interest thus far. The Neroverdi tried to get him in January already, but Empoli put up strong resistance, Calciomercato.com reports.

The 23-year-old experienced a relatively slow start but fully broke out in the last few months. He has tallied 6 goals and 5 assists in 25 matches in league play. In addition, he has scored three times in as many Coppa Italia fixtures. He has already improved his numbers of his past two Serie B campaigns.

Both Lazio and Sassuolo are eyeing Bajrami due to potential departures at the position. Domenico Berardi and Giacomo Raspadori are on the radar of the top Italian teams. Luis Alberto recently declared his desire to return to La Liga. In any case, Maurizio Sarri often complained for the thinness of the squad at his disposal.

The Albanian international has mostly featured as a no.10 or as a second-striker this season. However, he has already played as a creative box-to-box midfielder in the past and could easily make the transition. He shares some traits with the wantaway Biancocelesti star.

Sassuolo tried to beat the competition with a €10M offer for Bajrami in the previous window, but the player and his team elected to hold out to wait for Lazio and other potential summer suitors. Moreover, the Azzurri have been sliding in the standings and preferred holding on to one of their cornerstones.
