Sassuolo Brass Stress Berardi Significance Post Napoli Defeat

Sassuolo star Domenico Berardi was ruled out by Alessio Dionisi before the defeat against Napoli. However, as the coach and Neroverdi president Giovanni Carnevali reiterated, the Euro 2020 winner is expected back into the starting line-up against Hellas Verona next.

Speaking at the press conference to La Domenica Sportiva (via SassuoloNews) following the 2-0 loss at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Dionisi highlighted Berardi’s importance.

“He has the same importance as Victor Osimhen for Napoli, maybe even more. We are not dependent on Berardi, but his presence or absence makes a difference. He wasn’t called up because we wanted him in top form ahead of the next match.”

“It is my choice and that of the staff, we chose not to call him up to let him be in the best possible condition. He trained in a different way but he will be part of the team 100% from next week. I can confirm that without a doubt.”

Carnveli shunned any talk of Berardi exiting the club.

“Berardi will not be sold. It is our decision and it stays that way. Playing without him, who is our best player, means a lot. We can’t even think of making transfers when there were two days left before the start of the championship.”

Berardi was heavily linked with a departure to either Lazio or Juventus, but the 29-year-old winger is set to stay in the Neroverdi colors, at least until the winter transfer window.
