Sassuolo CEO Carnevali Hints at Berardi Transfer to Juventus

Juventus were inches away from sealing a deal with Sassuolo for Domenico Berardi, but their reluctance to provide the Neroverdi’s asking figure broke down any potential deal. Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has revealed that a move could very well materialize in January, given the Bianconeri put a proper offer on the table.

Speaking to local TV station Trc Modena (via Calciomercato), Carnevali gave some context as to how the saga panned between the two clubs.

“I admit that there was a contact with Juventus after Berardi had expressed his firm intention to join them: they wanted the player but there was no actual negotiation. We set a deadline, August 17th, to close the agreement and to find a replacement. At that moment, Juve perhaps had different problems, and it ended with nothing done. Clarity is important in negotiations and you can’t drag it out too long.”

However, he didn’t rule out Berardi’s exit in the next transfer window.

“You can’t rule it out because maybe more important proposals will arrive. I can’t say, but it’s clear that Sassuolo don’t need to sell.”

The 62-year-old executive thinks Juventus, along with Inter, are favorites to win the Scudetto this season.

“I consider them, together with Inter, the favorites for the Scudetto.”

Carnevali and Sassuolo welcome an unbeaten Juventus out at the Mapei Stadium over the weekend. They will look to banish the demons of their 4-2 defeat to Serie A newcomers Frosinone last time out, whereas the Bianconeri upset Lazio 3-1 the previous matchday.
