Sassuolo CEO Dishes on Berardi, Explains Scamacca Deal

Sassuolo lead executive Giovanni Carnevali took stock of their busy window and provided a medical update on Domenico Berardi, who subbed off in the Milan game due to an apparent thigh injury.

“He’s still undergoing examinations, but it’s less serious than initially feared. He will be out for about a month.”

The executive discussed their moves to Sky (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“We completed several important deals. I’m happy for selling Gianluca Scamacca to a Premier League club. It’s a great satisfaction and an opportunity for us to have visibility in England. No Serie A team asked for him this summer, while PSG did inquire. We had to turn them down because we had basically come to terms with West Ham at that point. I think it’s the right next step for him too. We have invested a lot as well. We managed to do things in advance, otherwise they would have been harder.”

Carnevali dished on Berardi once again staying at Sassuolo.

“He’s our best purchase for this season. He signed a five-year extension. He had some requests but we did everything we could to keep him. He will be a reference point for the newcomers.”

The Neroverdi made a late unsuccessful attempt for Hector Bellerin, which the official commented jokingly.

“We lost the race because of Barcelona. So be it.”

Carnevali commented on the two final additions by Sassuolo, Armand Laurienté and Janis Antiste, who will be helpful, especially with Berardi on the mend.

“The former was one of our top targets because we lost Hamed Traoré on the left wing. It wasn’t an easy deal as there was competition. We haven’t started well in terms of injuries this season. We hope they stop.”
