Sassuolo Emerge as Strong Suitors for Penarol Starlet

Sassuolo might lose Gianluca Scamacca and have earmarked Augustin Alvarez to replace him. The Uruguayan striker was close to joining Fiorentina in January. Penarol president Ignacio Ruglio admitted that they are about to receive an offer and will likely accept it.

According to Sport890 and Sky, the Neroverdi will tender €7.5M plus 20 percent on a future sale. The chairman spoke to El Pais: “An official bid is expected to arrive later today or tomorrow. It will consist of a $12M fee for 80 percent of his card, plus bonuses. If it will be confirmed, we are ready to take it.”

Alvarez recently followed Sassuolo on Instagram and Twitter, Transfermarkt points out. Ruglio also explained why the youngster did not join Fiorentina: “They proposed €12.5M, but we requested 10 percent of a future transfer and €2M add-ons on top of that, and they did not agree.”

After a strong campaign, the center-forward has not lived up to his previous numbers in 2022, having hit the net just once in 20 appearances. Instead, he had notched 23 goals and 5 assists in 40 matches last year.

Our Take on Sassuolo Tracking Alvarez

The Neroverdi spending a decent buck for another striker suggests that they have found a buyer for Scamacca, although all has been apparently quiet on such front recently. Alvarez, and Serie C sensation Luca Moro, would form an appealing pairing for Sassuolo. On the other hand, their competitiveness will hinge on whether they will be able to retain at least two among Domenico Berardi, Giacomo Raspadori, and Hamed Traorè.
