Sassuolo Exec Reveals Which Team Chased Berardi in 2022

Sassuolo’s sporting director Giovanni Carnevali disclosed a backstory about Domenico Berardi, which will once again be in high demand in the upcoming transfer market window. He talked to Tuttomercatoweb after the ‘Inside the Sport 2023’ event.

“He had some opportunities to leave in previous years. Last summer, he received a very important offer that was decisively larger compared to the one made by my friend Joe (Barone, Fiorentina’s CEO), which we didn’t even take into consideration. With all due respect, it was unacceptable.”

“That being said, he’s our stalwart, and we’d like for him to continue with us. He has voiced such an intention as well. In a world where athletes often long to switch teams, having somebody so committed to our club is a source of pride for us and for him. On top of being a top player, he’s an extraordinary guy. We hope he will stay long term.”

Carnevali jokingly commented on Davide Frattesi after heaping praise on Berardi.

“I have to promote him the best I can. He’s one of the most promising prospects, and the offers are trickling in. We’ll weigh them. The transfer market lasts 365 days, but we haven’t entered its hottest stages yet. We are waiting.”

According to the outlet, an unnamed English team offered €40M for the midfielder. However, he’d like to level up in Italy first. Juventus, Inter, Milan, and Napoli have all laid eyes on him. Most of the suitors have young makeweights that could entice Sassuolo. However, the talks aren’t too advanced with any Serie A side for now.
