Sassuolo Midfielder and Napoli Have Mutual Interest

Maxime Lopez hinted that he wanted to join Napoli in an interview, and the sentiment is reciprocated. He’s well familiar with Rudi Garcia, who coached him during his time at Olympique Marseille. The Azzurri are searching for a couple of new pieces in their midfield.

The regista talked with Le Media Carré (via Ansa).

“I’m very comfortable in Italy, I love this country. It would be the best if I could move to a top team. I like a Southern one that reminds me of Marseille. I’ve spent three years at Sassuolo and discussed my future with the brass, and I’m thankful for the visibility they gave me. However, it’s time for me to aim higher. If Roberto De Zerbi called me to transfer to Brighton, we’d seriously consider it. I also wonder about going back to OM.”

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, if Napoli wanted Lopez, it wouldn’t be too hard to strike a deal for €10/15M. The Italian champions have been linked to Lucas Tousart, but a swap with Diego Demme isn’t a viable solution due to their different valuations. They could eventually sign the fellow Frenchman on loan with option to buy. Hertha Berlin rebuffed their first inquiry in such a direction.
