Sassuolo Oversee Buoyant Transfer Window, Lose Caputo and Locatelli

Sassuolo have overseen an active summer transfer market that culminated with the loan transfer of veteran striker Francesco ‘Ciccio’ Caputo to Sampdoria on a season-long deal.

Caputo’s surprising deal was confirmed on deadline day before the mercato shut close on Tuesday evening. The Sassuolo forward will move with an obligation to buy at the end of the season for a total fee of €3.5m.

Sampdoria were in advanced talks for Napoli’s Andrea Petagna but the move never came into fruition, thus prompting the Blucerchiati to set sights on the 34-year-old.

The Neroverdi on the other hand have been regularly in the news regarding departures and potential arrivals. They sold Manuel Locatelli to Juventus and ended a long standing transfer saga. At the same time, they successfully managed to hold onto in-demand players such as Domenico Berardi, Gianluca Scamacca and Giacomo Raspadori – three talented Italy national team future mainstays.

The latter two are instrumental to Caputo’s transfer as the duo will now see more playing minutes in a bid to strengthen their development.

Alessio Dionisi’s side will face Jose Mourinho’s in-form Roma on 12 September when the season resumes.
