Sassuolo Sign Scamacca Substitute, CEO Carnevali Caves in Lucca Deal

Sassuolo are already planning for their future without young star forward Gianluca Scamacca, who looks like Inter’s next signing upfront. The 23-year-old is set to leave Sassuolo at the end of the season, as hinted many times by Neroverdi chief executive Giovanni Carnevali.

Keeping that in mind, Sassuolo have captured the signing of Padova striker Luca Moro on a permanent deal of €4.5m plus a percentage on his future sale. Moro is currently on loan at Serie C club Catania, where he will remain until the end of the season, before moving to Emilia-Romagna on a five-year contract that expires in June 2026.

As reflected by CEO Carnevali, the Neroverdi have successfully held onto few of their star players, including Giacomo Raspadori and Domenico Berardi. In spite of that, it is now known that Davide Frattesi and Gianluca Scamacca will leave at the end of the season, amid heightened interest from clubs all over Italy and abroad.

“It is difficult to keep them, as are Raspadori and Berardi. We are confident to keep them with us, even if we are taking precautions with other young people, because we will not be able to hold off all the requests that will arrive,” he said (via Fantacalcio)

Sassuolo, however, failed to sign highly-rated Pisa striker Lorenzo Lucca. Carenvali confirmed that Lucca will not be arriving at the Mapei Stadium this window.

Speaking of which, Carnevali said: “I don’t think it will happen now because we have poured our maximum energy into Moro after taking Ceide and Ciervo. Lucca does not arrive in this market, maybe later on.”

Nevertheless, they made sure to continue their momentum of possessing young talents with the onboarding of 21-year-old Moro.

“We took Moro with some difficulties because there were several teams on him. He has recently signed and has been in the sights for a few days. It was not easy to snatch him from Padova because he is a player with great prospects.”

Moro has been in impeccable form for Catania this campaign – registering a whopping 20 goals in 19 appearances for the Sicilians. He has failed to score in just six matches out of the 19 league matches in which he has starred.
