Sassuolo midfield talent Davide Frattesi only recently extended his contract with the Neroverdi until June 2026, amid interest from a host of top clubs, including Italian champions Inter.

The Roma and Lazio youth product believes he has gotten his senior professional career off to the best possible start, thanks to Sassuolo’s reputation as a springboard club.

In a recent interview with DAZN (via FCInterNews), the 22-year-old shed light on a variety of topics, including his teammate Gianluca Scamacca and the player he thinks is the best in Italy.

“In Sassuolo there are no pressures from the big clubs. It’s like a big family, on the one hand it’s okay and on the other not because maybe then you go out and find some difficulties. But to start the path in Serie A I think this is the perfect society,” said Frattesi.

Frattesi lives with Scamacca, and both the Inter targets are long-time friends, apart from being teammates.

He said: “We arrived at Lazio together, he went to Roma and then I went too. Then we found ourselves here. In fact I told him: ‘I recommend you go to a top club so at least I will follow you there too’. We are very similar, we think the same things, we have the same character. In 15 years, I think I have never quarreled with him.”

He then went on to reveal who he thinks is the strongest player in Serie A – one that he takes inspiration from.

“Barella is the top of the role in the championship. As good as he is he could score even more goals. He is clearly the strongest in Italy at the moment. If I could I would steal his intensity and his ability to assist, I would. I’m not in shape, I have cramps in the 70th minute. I still don’t know how to manage myself.”

Inter are the club reportedly in pole position for Frattesi, but the former Giallorossi U19 midfielder has a piece of his heart in the eternal city of Rome.

“It was a worm, I wanted to go back (to Roma) at all costs. I was a bit sick but in football there are so many variables. Like all Romans say, Rome is Rome.”

This is Frattesi’s first full season in the green and black colors, after appearing just once for the Neroverdi in 2017/18. After that campaign, he was sent out on loan for three consecutive seasons with Ascoli, Empoli and Monza respectively.

He has 4 goals and 3 assists in 31 appearances for Sassuolo this campaign
