Sassuolo Won’t Entertain Berardi Departure in January

Domenico Berardi won’t be one of the protagonists of the January market, as Sassuolo need him in the second half of the campaign. Director Giovanni Carnevali spoke clearly to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Fantacalcio).

“I can say directly that I won’t sell him. We won’t part ways with anybody during the winter. We’ll see how to intervene based on the opportunities that pop up. We listen to everybody and evaluate. But we won’t vend our top players.”

Sassuolo did do that with Jeremie Boga in the past, but the exec argued things were different.

Armand Laurienté is more pivotal to our project now than he was at the time. Berardi is a serious guy and a professional who cares deeply about Sassuolo. In the summer, after we blocked his departure, we didn’t need to clear the air. Sometimes silence is more meaningful than words, especially between people that know and esteem each other.”

Carnevali took stock of their season so far.

“Serie A is very difficult, and avoiding relegation is challenging for anybody. However, we have the ambition to aim at something more than that. We believe we’re missing five points, also because of our mistakes.”

Sassuolo won’t stop Alessio Dionisi if a big side wants him.

“The coach is always the most important person in a club like ours because he carries on the project. I like how he’s handling things. Then, if he gets an opportunity as it happened to Roberto De Zerbi, we’ll discuss it together.”
